Obituary – Mother Josie Mae Weaver

STATESBORO, Georgia – Mother Josie Mae Weaver, 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday January 1, 2022 at her residence with her family by her side.
She spent her early years growing up in the community of Garfield and received her formal education in the Bulloch County public school system. She graduated from the William James High School class of 1958.
Mother Weaver joined Gay’s Hill Baptist Church at a young age in Millen, Georgia. She served faithfully as an active member of the church choir and served as the church mother assistant.
She worked for the Bulloch County School System for over 20 years. She worked as a babysitter for eight years and as a cook for 12 years until her health deteriorated.
She served as the Liaison Officer for the Town of Portal as the Girl Scout Troop Leader and was also the Director of the Feed-a-Kid Summer Program for over 10 years.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Jérôme Weaver; one son, Ronald Jerome Weaver; one sister, Georgia Bell Jackson; one brother, Samuel Jackson Singleton; one brother-in-law, Elder Harry (Uncle Bud) Gerald; and a stepson, Leroy Handy.
She leaves cherished memories: two devoted daughters, Jeanette “Jen” (Frank) Ruffin, Rocky Ford, Georgia; and Jennifer “Chelle” (Ronnie) Newton, Millen, Georgia; his only grandson, Bobby Weaver of Sylvania, Georgia; three granddaughters, Roneshia Ruffin, Augusta, Georgia; JaLisa Newton, Statesboro, Georgia; and Aleisha Newton, Millen, Georgia; three great-granddaughters, De’haja Newton, Malayia Buchanan, Honesty Shivers; four great-grandsons, Peyton Williams, Zachary Weaver, Matthew Weaver and Dontavious Burton Jr.; one sister, the Reverend Dr Kathryn Wiggins Gerald, Florence, SC; two half-sisters, Brenda Brown and Glenda Walden, both of Atlanta, Georgia; two stepdaughters, Laquaila Seivright, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; and April (Joe) Murray, Statesboro, Georgia; one stepson, LeSamuel Palmer, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; spiritual brothers, Pastor Larry (Donna) Cone, Dea. Schubert Lane, Dea. Alonzo Holmes, fr. Ernest Simmons and Dea. James Reese; a very special cousin, George Jackson, Hallandale Beach, Florida; two very special daughters in Christ, Elizabeth Jackson Brown, Statesboro, Georgia; and Estelle Bellinger, Statesboro, Georgia; sisters in Christ, Christine Thomas, Carrie Williams, Hattie Mae Glover and Yvonne Holmes; special neighbors and great friends, Pam, Sissy, Theresa, Kirby and Becky Walter, Monte, Brandi; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends and his faithful dog, Cricket.
A Mother Weaver tour will take place on Wednesday evening, January 5, 2022 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
Mother Weaver will go to bed as is on the day of the 10 a.m. service until the time of the funeral. There will be no viewing after the eulogy.
The funeral of Mother Josie Mae Weaver will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Gay’s Hill Baptist Church with the Reverend Larry Cone as celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The final rites were entrusted to Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
