A premature baby, who had been pronounced dead, was found alive during preparations for his burial in Brazil. Although doctors confirmed the death, the funeral director noticed a heartbeat and transported the baby to hospital again. According to a Mirror article, the baby gave birth at home without any medical help. The 18-year-old mother who belonged to the town of Rondonia requested medical help in the municipality of Ariquemes on December 27. She was reportedly unaware of her pregnancy and went to help them after experiencing severe stomach pain. Doctors, however, did not notice her pregnancy and sent her away each time.
According to the mother’s family, while she was at home, her pain increased and she gave birth without any medical help. The baby was born in the fifth month of pregnancy and looked very frail. The family transported the baby to hospital where doctors declared him stillborn.
After that, the funeral director was called in to take the baby’s body in preparation for the burial.
The body was handed over to the funeral director on Tuesday at 3 a.m. Hours later, while preparing the body for burial, he noticed signs of life in the baby and found his heart was still beating. He immediately transported the baby to the hospital and had him admitted to the intensive care unit. The baby’s state of health is uncertain.
The baby’s family and the funeral home have filed a police complaint against the hospital and the investigation is currently underway.
