BREVARD COUNTY, Florida – A Palm Bay mother faces child neglect charges after waiting several hours to report her two children missing on Friday, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Palm Bay Police said they arrested Dana Kanter, 40, on Saturday after learning she had waited eight hours to report her boys, aged 10 and 11, missing.

The affidavit shows that Kanter had not seen the boys since 7 a.m. on Friday. When in a rush, she couldn’t give any idea of where they frequently went, but said the two attended Jupiter Elementary School.
According to police, Kanter also said one of the boys was about to be diagnosed with autism.
The boys were finally found around 9:57 a.m. on Saturday after a missing persons alert was issued and an hour-long search involving the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Air Response Team and the dogs, have declared officers.
The couple were “cycling near the canal just west of Hillock (Avenue), a significant distance from their residence,” the affidavit states.
Police say Kanter “failed to provide children with the proper care and supervision necessary to maintain a healthy child’s physical and mental health.”
Kanter faces child neglect charges and is currently being held in the Brevard County Jail on $ 20,000 bail.
She had previously faced child neglect charges in 2017, according to the Brevard County Reservation website.
