Mumbai The Mumbai Criminal Branch has apprehended a 35-year-old man who previously worked at a famous Bollywood actress’ residence in Juhu as a cook, for allegedly helping a 17-year-old mother abandon her newborn baby in the South Mumbai region.

While the defendant denies being the biological father of the newborn girl, the mother claimed in her statement that the defendant was the biological father.

Gamdevi Police have registered a case under Section 317 (Exposure and Abandonment of a Child under Twelve Years, by Parent or Custody) of the Indian Penal Code against the mother and unknown. The accused has been arrested and will be presented in court, Chief Inspector Rampiyare Rajbhar of Gamdevi Police Station said.

Police are now carrying out DNA tests of the baby and the accused to probe the fact. The incident came to light on January 13 when local residents noticed a baby on the road near Cadbury Junction in the Malabar Hill area of ​​south Mumbai.

“The defendant is from Jharkhand and came to Mumbai about 15 years ago and is currently working as a cook in the house of a businessman in Gamdevi area. He previously worked in the residence of a famous Bollywood actress to Juhu,” said a criminal branch officer who was part of the investigation.

In his testimony, the accused claimed to have provided jobs as housekeepers and cooks to several people who had come from his native country in recent years. The victim is also from Jharkhand and lived in the Juhu area where she worked as a domestic helper and came into contact with the accused through mutual friends while looking for a job, the deputy said.
