CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – About a third of all pregnant women in Nueces County do not receive adequate prenatal care, according to Sherry Peterson, director of Success By 6 at United Way of the Coastal Bend.

That’s why the Success By 6 Early Childhood Coalition is hosting a free community resource fair for pregnant women to help them prepare for a healthy pregnancy.

The healthy mom, healthy baby! The Community Resource Fair will be held on Saturday, January 29 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Coastal Bend.

There will be live presentations and a plethora of resources available for mothers, as well as COVID-19 vaccinations. There will also be over 150,000 diapers that will be offered to event attendees.

“Every stage of pregnancy is important, but early prenatal care is essential as it sets the stage for the entire pregnancy and influences the well-being of both mother and baby,” Peterson said in a statement.

The Success By 6 Early Childhood Coalition is a group of non-profit organizations, government agencies, businesses and individuals who work together to “give families the resources, information and advice they need to put their children on the path to lifelong success ”. You can read more about the coalition and its resources available here.

Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, the event will have health and safety protocols in place. Masks are encouraged for anyone over 2 years old and will be provided upon arrival of guests. Temperature checks will also be carried out at the gate and social distancing measures will be in place and encouraged among guests.
