Baby swap rocks Subarnapur DHH

Sonepur: A newborn baby was reportedly exchanged at the Subarnapur district headquarters hospital on Wednesday. Bisikesan Jhankar, the most distant from the baby, lodged a complaint with the Ullunda police station on this matter on Wednesday.

Police have opened an investigation into the case. The incident came just a month after a newborn girl was reportedly robbed from that hospital.

Reports said a woman, identified as Banita Jhankar from Gandapali village under Ullunda police limits, was admitted to DHH six days ago after experiencing pain at work.

Hospital records showed Banita gave birth to a girl on December 24. However, in the FIR it was reported that a nurse from DHH staff initially informed Banita’s husband and mother that she had given birth to a baby boy.

However, they handed over a girl after a while, it has been claimed. Banita’s husband, Bisikesan Jhankar, has called for an investigation into the case.

He alleged that hospital authorities are involved in the exchange of babies. Dr Ramesh Swain, District Medical Officer (CDMO), said: “We have not yet received any such complaint. However, if we come across an allegation, the matter will be investigated. “

Sonepur IIC Niranjan Das said an investigation is underway. He said two baby girls gave birth at DHP that day.
