  1. Gabby Petito’s family wrote touching social media posts about the first Christmas without her. The family expressed sadness over their first Christmas without her and said they will continue their mission of hope and work to inspire others facing a difficult holiday time. (Patch Patch)
  2. New COVID-19 testing facilities opened across LI this week to meet the demand for emergency care. Northwell Health will operate drive-thru test sites at Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn and Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. These sites will offer PCR testing and are by appointment only. Long Island has the highest daily COVID-19 infection rate in New York City. (News 12)
  3. HO-HUM flag removed from Fire Island. At the December 20 meeting, the board voted to remove the Ho-Hum pavilion from Fire Island. There are no plans to replace it at this time. The move came after an emergency meeting, where the board discussed the issue and sought advice from Adon Austin, an engineer at Rising Tide Waterfront Solutions. The decision to remove the pavilion was a difficult one, but it ultimately translated into the cost of its relocation or reconstruction and the environmental impact it could have. (LI Advance)
  4. Suffolk County Director Steve Bellone and Suffolk County Police held a press conference to remind residents to keep vehicles locked after a wave of auto thefts across Long Island.. Since December 19, Suffolk Police have responded to eight incidents in which cars were unlocked or with the key fob inside. (Long Island News)
